In July of 2007 British Standards Institution (BSI) published the second revision of its Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series OHSAS Standard. This occupational health and safety standard was developed to become a recognizable standard against which subscribers can assess and certify their management systems.

This standard was developed to be compatible with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards. OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety standard focuses on specifying occupational health and safety (OH&S) requirements for organizations that are concerned with achieving and demonstrating a robust occupational health and safety performance. This is achieved through controlling organization's OH&S risks consistent with its OH&S policy and objectives.
